Dear Members:

The Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen has received funding through a Rural Business Enterprise Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture.  The Guild will use this funding to provide workshops and hands-on training in social networking, business training and marketing to assist our artisans in expanding their business in a global marketplace.  As a result of our survey sent out to the membership, we are going to address many areas of concern. Monthly sessions over the next year will allow our artisans to explore ways to create a digital identity through Facebook, Twitter, blogs and websites as a way to create access to consumers across the globe.

We are very excited about our workshop offerings.  The first workshop in our series entitled "Reaching the New Age Consumer with New Technology" which provided hands-on experience with Twitter was a great success.  Those who attended felt that it was very beneficial and that it was a good start to what they wanted to learn.

Our second workshop was on Facebook.  We just a workshop on Developing your own website.  This was very helpful to several of our participants.  Some of these workshops may be repeated, to give others a chance to participate that couldn't attend the first ones.

The January 21st workshop on better photography was very helpful.  One needs to know about what a camera will do, except aim and shoot.  This workshop will be followed up later with how to set up a shoot and how to position lights for still art photographs.

The 21st workshop also brought us knowledge about how to set up a Blog.  Many of the participants got their blogs set up and are now using them.
