Wood Carving

|
My name is John Hendrickson and I have lived and worked in Pineville, Kentucky all of my life. I have been employed for 53 years at Pineville Community Hospital Inc. as a Radiologic Technologist of which I am currently the Director of the Radiology Department. I first did some wood carving with my father in the 1960's carving dogs, horses and birds until his death in 1970. After my father's death, I continued woodworking but not any carving. I attended Caricature Carvers of America Woodcarving Show at Dollywood in 1994. There I met members of the Smokey Mountain Woodcarving Club: Gary Falin, Wayne Shinlever, Jack Williams, and others who introduced me to caricature carving. I have since had the opportunity to carve with members of this club as well as Harold Enlow, a renowned caricature carver, and Helen Gibson of John C. Campbell Folk School and Larry Green, author of Carving Boots and Shoes. I am a member of Pine Mountain Woodcarvers in Pineville, Kentucky. I became a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artist and Craftsman in 2005 and a juried member of Kentucky Crafted in 2006. My entry in Woodcarving Illustrated Magazine Santa carving contest was included in the top 28 printed in the Holiday 2007 Issue 41. |
