Wood Carving

John carved with his father in the 60's carving dogs, horses, and birds until his father's death in 1970. He continued wood working and had a cabinet shop for a number of years. He attended Caricature Carvers of America woodcarving show at Dollywood in 1994. There in a demonstration booth he was invited to try his hand at carving caricatures, which renewed his interest in carving. He later became a member of the Smokey Mountain Woodcarving Club: Gary Falin, Wayne Shinlever, Jack Williams and others who introduced him to caricature carving. He has since had the opportunity to carve with members of this club as well as Harold Enlow, a renowned caricature carver and Helen Gibson of John C. Campbell Folk School. John is a member of Pine Mountain Woodcarvers in Pineville, Kentucky, a small talented group who enjoy carving caricatures and canes. John became a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artist and |
