My desire to create artistic images from nature began at an early age when I found peace and solitude wading the creeks, wandering the fields and exploring the woods around my Central Ohio home. Though I have no formal photographic training, I have been developing my ability to see photographs since those childhood days. My world of exploration has since expanded to include parks, refuges, and preserves from coast to coast. My photographic interests have grown to include macro, nature portraits, wildlife, and landscapes.
My photographs are created in 35mm format using both digital and film cameras. I prefer shooting in natural light, making extensive use of reflectors. I limit my use of filters to a polarizer and a warming filter. Beyond the camera, the most important photographic tools for me are a tripod and cable release. Both are necessary to support a love of long exposures and low ISOs. I still explore the world with the same wonder and excitement as I did when I was a child. Whether drifting down Kentucky’s Green River, hiking the trails of Red River Gorge, searching for fossils at The Falls of the Ohio, or sitting in a photo blind near a friend’s small pond, all natural subjects, as well as many others, are fair game for study and interpretation through my camera lens. I am a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen and have exhibited my work at fairs and galleries throughout the Kentucky and Southern Indiana area. I have lived in Louisville for over 30 years and consider Kentucky my adopted home. |
